Home crowd support to boost RP football team
A RABID home crowd support and a well-prepared team are the things going for the Philippines when it hosts the final qualifying round of the Asean Football Championship, formerly Tiger Cup, starting this Sunday at the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod.
“We have a chance right now,” said Philippine Football Federation (PFF) chief Johnny Romualdez of the country’s chances in the week-long meet hosted by the Negros Football Association, led by its president, Rep. Charlie Cojuangco.
“Negros in general and Bacolod in particular are the country’s football hotbed and so we expect our countrymen to root for our team,” added Romualdez. “With the crowd solidly behind us, I know our team will do good.”
Laos, Cambodia, Brunei and Timor Leste are the other countries participating in the tournament also sponsored by Petron, Red Bull, Red Ribbon, 2Go and SuperFerry.
The top two teams in the meet join early qualifiers Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar and Singapore in the second round co-hosted by Singapore and Thailand in January.
