The Philippines won the bid to host the 2008 IWSF (International Water Ski Federation) Cable Wakeboard World Championships to be held in Camarines Sur.

Camarines Sur Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. made the personal announcement on Tuesday when he appeared in the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Pantalan Restaurant in Manila.

“We really made a strong case to host the 2008 World Cable Championships,” said Villafuerte about the meet to be held at the Camarines Sur Water Sports Complex.

“We were very optimistic right from the start because we knew for a fact that the facilities and the technical specifications of the Camarines Sur Water Sports Complex are truly world-class, equal if not actually superior to those in other countries,” added the youthful governor in the public sports program sponsored by PAGCOR, Manila Mayor Lito Atienza and Manila Sports Council chairman Ali Atienza.
