PacMan’s $3-M payday

BOXING may be a brutal sport, but at times, it’s the shortest route to fame and fortune.

In the case of the Philippines’ multi-millionaire boxing demigod Manny Pacquiao, it means another hefty paycheck — with lots of zeroes written on it.

Of course, it’s not everyday that Pacquiao, or anybody else for that matter, gets to wake up on a Sunday morning in a cozy bed at a posh Las Vegas hotel with his piggy bank heavier by US$3 million.

And for Pacquiao, that day will happen on November 19, the morning after his high-profile “Grand Finale” showdown with Mexican hombre Erik “El Terrible” Morales which will be held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What makes the idea really mind-boggling, however, is the fact that not only is the said amount — about 150,000,000 in Philippine currency — astronomical in terms of fee, it has likewise punctuated PacMan’s mark in sports history as the richest and highest-paid Pinoy athlete.

As if that’s not enough, there’s still loads of serious cash coming in after the bout such as his share of pay-per-view receipts, endorsement fees and other deals that will definitely put Pacquiao’s counting skills to extreme test.

And just how eye-popping PacMan’s megabuck ring stint with Morales worth? Try counting it from a different angle…

‘MONEY’ Pacquiao: PacMan’s Nov. 18 moolah by the numbers:

  • P 12,500,000.00 – Pacquiao’s per-round rate *
  • P 4,166,666.66 – Pacquiao’s per-minute rate (12 rounds=36 minutes) *
  • P 69,444.44 – Pacquiao’s take-home pay per second *

* Assuming Pacquiao’s 12-round bout with Morales goes the full route
