Philippine sports new roundup for Sunday March 11, 2007:
Challenge Run Series starts at Santa Ana Park Horse Racing. First leg of 2007 Challenge Run Series at Santa Ana Park presented by Philippine Racing Club (PRC). This is a 1,500 meter horse racing event and features a field inlcuding locals Bullet Day and Rain Dancer and 12 Australian-bred imported horses.
Philippine golf. Frankie Minoza’s bid at the Singapore Masters Golf Championship is still alive. He is on the 21st spot with a 211 total – 7 strokes off the leaders. Other Filipino golfer Angelo Que dropped from 11th to 69th with a 211 total. Also improved were Philippine golfers Tony Lascuna (212) and Gerard Rosales (213). The 11th Paul Harris Cup Golf Tournament will be played on March 16 , 20707 at the Alabang Golf and Country Club in Muntinlupa City. Pinoy golfers struggle at the Riversdale Cup in Melbourne – Australia’s premiere 72-hole amateur golf event – Jay Bayhon and Michael Bibat’s 148 have the Philippine team at 9th place. Team coach Bong Lopez is confident the Philippine golf team can bounce back in the second round.
Philippine tennis. Johnny Arcilla defeated Joseph Victorino (6-2,6-4) to retain the Gakuin Inveitational Tennis Cup at the Ayala Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City.
Philippine boxing. Manny Pacquiao’s training for his upcoming fight vs Jorge Solis of Mexico has stasted at General Santos City where a lot of Manny’s sparring partners complained of aches and pains. 7th Gabriel “Falsh” Elorde Boxing Awards Night will be held on Marcg 25 at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Paranaque. Manny Pacquiao will receive the Best Boxer of the Year Award for the 6th straight year.
Basketball. PBA Fiesta Cup games for Sunday are Welcoat vs. Sta.Lucia at 4pm and Alaska vs Ginebra at 6:30pm. Rudy Hatfield gave up his slot at the Philippine basketball team for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after failing to resolve schedule conflicts with his wedding date. The Olympics bound Philippine basketball team is coached by Chot Reyes.
